International succes
After two great reviews in British “The Wire”, Emil has toured intensely for several years around Scandinavia, Europe and USA. In March 2007 with his album Live+, he toured successfully in the Far East. Performing in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, were he among other successful concerts played at a concert hall on a university in Beijing in front of 1.700 people. Part of the tours were with special guest Wayne Horvitz, who has worked with Bill Frisell, John Zorn and others, and who Emil worked with on his US tour in June 2006.
Analogue-digital music
The concept of Emil de Waal’s new album is nested in a self-defined genre called Analogue-digital. Combining the analogue approach of the instruments and the digital approach Emil de Waal+ deliberately includes the computer as an additional member of the band, and this truly reflects their way of working. The electronic parts of the music provide not only the basic rhythmic beat but also the musical harmonies and melodies.
With Swedish multi-musician Gustaf Ljunggren and piano player Søren Kjærgaard, he has created an innovative approach to music. All the facets of the music are let loose, creating a floating style suspended in the unexplored sphere between free improvisations and the constant (Analogue-electronic) beat.
Emil de Waal’s professional life as a musician really took off in 1987 During his long professional career, Emil de Waal has played with almost everybody in Denmark, and in most genres – from deep underground to universal pop music.
